GMA Week

22 04 2008

As many of you Nashvillians know, this week is GMA week.  For those of you that don’t know, the Gospel Music Association puts on a series of events all over town for anything and everything to do with Christian Music.  Working for EMI has had its benefits this week.  Yesterday I was able to go to the Songwriter’s showcase.  It was hosted by Mark Hall (Casting Crowns) and Bart Millard (MercyMe).  This event featured the writers of the top songs in Christian Music this year based on radio, as well as several Song of the Year nominees.  It was amazing.  Leeland and Mac Powell were the highlights for me.  It was really cool to see some of the writers we publish do their thing.

Today, I went downtown to watch some of the webisode tapings for WorshipTogether.com. This is an EMI owned website that showcases our top worship leaders.  I realize webisode isn’t very descriptive, so I’ll elaborate.  Basically the songwriter tells the story of how they wrote the song and then they give a quick rundown of how to play the song.  We taped songs from some amazing writers including David Crowder, Chris Tomlin, Leeland Mooring, Steve Fee, Matt Maher, and Kelly Minter.  I encourage you to check them out. The rest of the week promises to be downhill from here.
