Its never too late to learn.

I feel nerdy for writing this post and I love the Ghostbusters.

At my job I’ve been looking for ways to stay busy and keep learning.  I just don’t want to become complacent with were I am here.  So far, I think I’ve done a relatively good job of that.  In order to keep myself motivated I’ve taken on that small part of the Licensing Specialist job description that says I’m in charge of the publishing website and decided to run with it.

In its current state, the site is totally lame and outdated.  I’ve spent all last week preparing a design request to send out to a couple of firms.  Additionally, as a publisher we decided that we need pages with music players to help pitch songs.  Here’s where the learning starts.  I’ve always had a basic knowledge of HTML but thats about it.  I’m ready for bigger and better things.  So, I brushed up on my HTML, got a flash media player up and running, and I just ordered a book on CSS.  Its not as hard as I expected, but there is a world of info that I’ve yet to learn.  Needless to say, I’m excited.  Next step, take this blog to an actual website and upgrade to the advanced version.

Blingoe

Typically I’m not one to go for internet schemes, but this one is awesome. Its a search engine that enters you to win stuff everytime you search.  Its put on by Publisher’s Clearing House, so its legit.  I’ll admit, I wasn’t a believer but one guy in my office has already won a movie ticket and a $500 gift card to Home Depot.  The best part is that if you refer anyone and they win, you win the same prize they do.  I love pyramid schemes.  If you want to sign up, let me know and I’ll refer you.

twitter

So I’ve decided to give this whole twitter thing out.  I’ve been told its like blogging on crack.  Great, as if I don’t have a hard enough time coming up with something every couple of days to post on this dang thing.  I mean most of its filler but I’m enjoying it so far.  So, if you feel the need to stalk me and get updates as to what I’m doing every couple of hours, you can check me out HERE or follow me via the RSS on the right side of this page.

I love craiglist. Not only can you get great deals on stuff, but you can trade stuff you already have.  Nashville is a great place to trade music gear.  I was bored with an amp I had so I put it up, just to see what people would offer me.  Tonight, I went out to Spring Hill and ended up leaving the amp there.

I went from this

I got this off a guy who builds relic guitars.  Its a double bound tele with great looking wear and checking finished in a nitro 3 color sunburst. Shes pretty.  I also came home with a strat project body and neck.  To get all this I gave up a ‘72 Fender Quad Reverb in a custom white 2×12 cab.  All in all, I think I got a good deal, what do you think?

Blog??

6 02 2008

So why blog?  I’m not sure really.  I don’t plan to use this as some sort of internet diary, but recently I have become intrigued by blogging.  To break up the monotony of work I have recently started checking out some popular blogs on a regular basis. Specifically:

www.ragamuffinsoul.com
www.tuaw.com

These two blogs aren’t necessarily what I am going for but they do inspire me. Besides, I don’t think I could handle the popularity they have achieved.  This will be a place for me to post things of interest as well as document some big events in my life. More to come
