Its never too late to learn.

22 07 2008

I feel nerdy for writing this post and I love the Ghostbusters.

At my job I’ve been looking for ways to stay busy and keep learning.  I just don’t want to become complacent with were I am here.  So far, I think I’ve done a relatively good job of that.  In order to keep myself motivated I’ve taken on that small part of the Licensing Specialist job description that says I’m in charge of the publishing website and decided to run with it.

In its current state, the site is totally lame and outdated.  I’ve spent all last week preparing a design request to send out to a couple of firms.  Additionally, as a publisher we decided that we need pages with music players to help pitch songs.  Here’s where the learning starts.  I’ve always had a basic knowledge of HTML but thats about it.  I’m ready for bigger and better things.  So, I brushed up on my HTML, got a flash media player up and running, and I just ordered a book on CSS.  Its not as hard as I expected, but there is a world of info that I’ve yet to learn.  Needless to say, I’m excited.  Next step, take this blog to an actual website and upgrade to the advanced version.

I like kids. Right??

23 06 2008

The last two weekends I have had the pleasure of hanging out with 8 nieces and nephews.  Larissa’s brother and his wife just had twins, so we made the trek down to the ATL to see them and throw some bows in the process.  They were amazing, super cute, and only days old at the time.  I’ll admit, I totally have a baby dropping phobia.  Luckily my fears were not realized and no babies were harmed in the process.  And even though they were very cool, they seemed to be working their parents to the bone with all the feedings and lack of a sleep schedule.  As a result, Larissa and I both agreed that we were ok not doing that for a year or three.

This week my sister-in-law, Heidi, had surgery.  So, to help her and her husband out we took on all 6 of her kids along with my other brother-in-law and his wife.  Micah and I took the guys and played some Bball in Smyrna, while Larissa and Ashley took the ladies and did girl things at my house.  After some hangout time, a few drum lessons, and a trip to the zoo, I can tell you that these kids are so cool.  Super-intelligent and well-behaved.  That said, when their powers combine (Captain Planet), they are a handful based on their number alone.  I’m officially impressed with the skills their parents have.  I know I couldn’t do it.

In conclusion, I do like other people’s kids.  One day when Larissa and I are ready, we will have some of our own…

Just another person complaining about gas prices…

27 05 2008

Gas prices have never really been an issue with me.  All through high school and college I knew that the prices were increasing, but it was gradual and it didn’t effect me very much.  Now it seems I’m singing a different tune.   My car requires that I burn premium.  This morning I was stunned to see that the current price had shot up to $4.159. I just couldn’t do it.  Me of all people refused to burn the proper gas in my car.  I had to downgrade and I’m hoping the car is ok with that.

I know we’ve heard all the excuses over and over again, but as a country how much more can we take?  How much longer can we go before we’re all riding our bikes to work?  Everyone I know is effected by this and is changing their habits as a result.  As a country, we’re consuming less gas than last year. Demand is down and prices are up.  That is BS.  I hate the inelasticity of it all.  I for one need a motorcycle and a hybrid, or a hybrid motorcycle.  That would stave it off for at least a week or two at the current rate of increase…

twitter

So I’ve decided to give this whole twitter thing out.  I’ve been told its like blogging on crack.  Great, as if I don’t have a hard enough time coming up with something every couple of days to post on this dang thing.  I mean most of its filler but I’m enjoying it so far.  So, if you feel the need to stalk me and get updates as to what I’m doing every couple of hours, you can check me out HERE or follow me via the RSS on the right side of this page.

Its been an interesting week…

7 04 2008

As most of you know, I work in the Music Business.  Specifically I’m at EMI in Publishing.  I’m quickly learning that job security is hard to come by in this industry.  If you’ve been watching the news, you’ve probably seen stories about EMI cutting 2000 jobs.  Well last week it hit us.  Publishing, myself included, managed to make it through unscathed.  Unfortnately, nearly thirty of my co-workers weren’t as lucky.

With the state of the business the way it is, something had to be done.  Bottom line is that as a company, we just aren’t running as efficiently as we should be.  As a result, we needed to trim down.  Sadly, that meant getting rid of some really awesome people who for the most part, were great at their jobs.  Since we are reorganizing, 18 new jobs were posted.  We work for an amazing Christian company but it’s a tough time.  Please pray for all those involved.

I’m a married man…

27 03 2008

Well we’re back.  I’m married. I’m living in my new house.  This is my first marital post.  A lot has changed but it doesn’t feel all that different.  The wedding was all I could have hoped for. The music was amazing. Best of all, all of my friends and family were there to share it with us.  Our photographers put up a Slideshow some samples of the wedding pics.  We also took a bunch of pics on the honeymoon as a tribute to our favorite show…

1 day…

15 03 2008

Tomorrow is the big day.  I expected to be a little more nervous than I am.  The truth is, at this point it doesn’t really matter.  I’m excited about actually being married.  The only thing I was nervous about was the execution of the event.  Now I have come to the conclusion that it is just going to happen.  How is another story…  I’m done with blogging and the internet for at least the next week or so. I’ll post pictures of everything once I get back.  See you on the other side of matrimony…

2 days…

Panera

I’m a mere two days out from giving all of my life to another person. I have plenty to do but where am I? Panera.  Fear not though, I am here to mooch off of their free wifi and work on my vows. Yep, two days out and I’m just now working on my vows.  Good thing Larissa is marrying me for the procrastinator that I am.  Just needed to blog to keep the streak alive.  Back to working on the most important event of my life to this point…

3 Days…

13 03 2008
ball and chain

T-minus 3 days and counting ’til I hitch up the ole ball and chain.  I had planned to start my vacation time tomorrow, but about halfway through a meeting about collecting money from deadbeat record labels, I decided to make today a half-day.  I took the rest of the day to eat lunch with my parents, wash my filthy excuse for a car, and meet up with my lovely bride.  Today was a good day…

4 days…

12 03 2008

Only 4 days away from marital bliss and I am tired and stressed.  My room, car, and desk at work are all a wreck.  I think this is pretty indicative of what my life is like at this point.  I’m not nervous at all. I can’t wait to marry Larissa.  I’m just ready for all of this planning to be over.  For those yet to wed, I recommend eloping…
